Bogus Degrees and How To Avoid Them

It may be funny to think it, but the reality is, there are some degree courses out there that are not genuine, and won’t be recognised by UK employers and the government.  When you are putting time, effort, and money into studying at university, you’ll want to know that you’re studying for a valid qualification that will count in the future, so what do you look out for to ensure that the courses advertised are genuine?

One of the first things to look out for when researching university courses, is the awarding body for the course. All genuine courses will lead to a degree from a recognised awarding body, given the power to award the qualifications under an act of parliament, or by royal charter. Alongside the universities that are recognised awarding bodies for degree courses, there are also those that do not grant a degree, but are allowed to run courses on behalf of those who do. These are known as ‘listed bodies’.
